Yes, South Africa can

By John Carlin

It's been a spectacular success. Everything according to plan, smooth as silk; South Africa successfully re-branded; no unpleasant surprises, and plenty of pleasant ones.

Not a cheep, for example, out of the ludicrous Julius Malema, who the ANC wisely locked up in the attic, as you do with the mad live-in relative when important guests come around.

No reports of any new Zuma off-spring, or even wif...

The South Africa that we could become.

The South Africa that we could become

World Cup lessons....strictly for the fans.

JOHANNESBURG - Vision, mission and strategic intent - the classic business school lingo which sees most people's eyes snow over like a faulty TV set.

The hyper analytical among us only make it worse by adding complexity in the form of graphs, maps models, and the like. Unless you work for a management consultancy or are doing your MBA, these potentially powerful concepts remain overused, meaningless buzzwor...

How the world is seeing South Africa.

Posted by Si Ekin on Saturday, July 10, 2010, In : FIFA World Cup TM
I am across this nice peice about how the world cup and we in South Africa are seen. Very inspiring amazing stuff. A perception shifter, for sure...

The headlines in rsa read the same old dismal news. World cup too expensive. No way to recoup investment. World cup over capitalised. And more in that vein

I read this as I prepared for a journey across 5 continents in 5 weeks flying in and out of jhb and at times being out during parts of the world cup, much to my disappointment.

I had acce...

Amazing evening at FIFA World CupTM event: England vs Algeria

Posted by Si Ekin on Saturday, June 19, 2010, In : FIFA World Cup TM
Wow, I was so priviledged to get tickets to England vs Algeria last night at the FIFA World CupTM (Yes, I am playing with seeing if I can leap frog off FIFA to get more traffic to my blog!)

England were woeful, but then they pretty much always have been. Congratulations Algeria for adding some serious fizz and energy to the game. Someone had to to it!

What was extraordinary, was the experience from start to finish - parking at the station has been organised with car guards and spotlights, a gr...

Current Projects:

1st May - 30 July - 90 Talks In 90 Days

Between 1st May and 30th July I embarked on a project: 90 talks in 90 days. I systematically confronted and shattered my deepest fears of rejection, failure and judgement in the hope of inspiring others to do the same. I blogged about it every day and had a crew film it once per week. It was a remarkable, delightful, challenging and absurd journey.

Why 90 Talks In 90 Days?

Some years ago I got on a bus in Brixton, London and my life changed forever. I confronted my deepest fear: conquering my fear of rejection by making a speech to passengers on a packed number 59. I was stunned by the power I had within me and my ability to transform a group of complete, disparate strangers. Before, the crowd was positively funereal, after they were more like a rowdy wedding reception. On my way out, I was confronted by an extremely fearful individual and had an experience that makes me smile to this day.  I learned that if you confront your fears (illusions) with courage, anything is possible. My life became about helping people to be courageous in pursuit of what is important to them. Here I am, above, doing the talk one morning on a bus at the airport here in Cape Town.

Stand by - it might make your toes curl! For videos from the 90 days, look below.
