I spent some great time with my good friend and wise man, Mike this week. We meet every now and then and share stories and exchange ideas and insights. I told him about the GOAL GYM and how excited I am about it and that is it essentially not a lot more than, "what you put  “what you put your attention on grows”. He like that, which was good to know! I got that we are either focusing on what works or what doesn't and we can choose at any time to shift our focus. And has we keep our focus, we build momentum. This is a great story he told me about momentum and the story of the invasion of Crete in 1942 by crack German paratroopers; the first time the parachute had been used in
battle.

With state of the art weaponry and fresh troops, the Germans had driven the allies – many South African – to the beaches where they were being picked up by cumbersome barges that could accommodate 300 men. The navy ships were sitting ducks in the open water to the Stuka dive bombers and the might of the German Airforce. Carnage ensued. One young officer realised that unless something happened a massacre would follow. He told every man to point his Enfield (bolt action service rifle) at the next Stuka and only his order, pull the trigger at the same time. “Wait, wait…1…2…3…fire!” And the Stuka disintegrated in front of their eyes, a large percentage of 300 bullets ripping through the aircraft's outer shell. Other barges saw what happened and did the same.

One by one the Stukas were taken out and the rest is history. Churchill declared that that moment of insight was the turning point of the war and said that before the battle of Al Alemein, we never won a battle, after Al Alemein, we never lost one. (The major turning point was Stalingrad, where Germany lost two million of it’s finest troops.)

It is this thinking that can produce any result. It is called momentum.
