In 1997 I had a life-changing experience on a bus. It's a long story which you will hear more about but in essence I confronted a very deep fear and got up and started speaking to a bunch of strangers. It was 23:00 on a Friday night in Brixton, South London. At one stage I was fairly convinced I was at best going to be punched in the mouth and at worst, pulverised. But neither happened and I live to tell the tale, in fact just the opposite happened. I experienced something pretty close to bliss! The lesson I really experienced was that fear really is an illusion and that if you act in the face of that fear with courage, extraordinary things happened. So much so that whenever I am scared I remind myself, "remember the bus." I am reminded that I can do amazing things. (The fear, like an unwelcome drunken cousin at a wedding, always returns!) I have been doing it off and on since then. Click below to see for yourself. (It will make your toes squirm!) |
